Mark Hearld's Map of North Norfolk

I was lucky enough to be sent a print of Mark Hearld's big fold-out map of North Norfolk (wouldn't I love to live there) that he did for St. Jude's Gallery in Itteringham.  Mark has picked out some of the local flora and fauna, and highlighted the area's special places.

It's not only beautiful to look at, witty and informative, but the ink smells wonderful too!   I love the influences of that man Bawden again.   Mark Hearld's prints are available from St. Jude's here.
The gallery is run by Simon and Angie Lewin, whose own screenprints and engravings are just so covetable.

Alliums & Fennel

St. Jude's also have a great blog, All Things Considered.

I have to mention, in this context, the passing at the age of 93, of Lucienne Day, who with her husband Robin, was a pioneer of mid-20th century design.     This is her Calyx textile pattern designed for a display at the Festival of Britain in 1951.   The influence echoing through much of today's textile design is evident.   A Good Thing.

Chrissie,
I've followed All things considered for a long time. It is one of my absolute favourites and normally I would join you in waxing lyrical about their artists but I am so saddened by reading about the detah of Lucienne Day. This has just passed me by and I don't know how. I have a great book by Lesley Jackson about both Robin and Lucienne. They were a dream team and her fabric and china designs are just so redolent of the 50's. What a loss. Thanks for bringing it to attention. So sad. Lesley

I have recently found out about St Jude's, Mark Hearld and Angie Lewin. Aren't Angie's prints just stunning? I get quite swoony about umbel flowers and their fabrics. I don't live too far from the gallery. It's a day out I intend to take this year.

Thankyou so much for letting me know about Lucienne Day. I hadn't known she had died.

Looks like a great map. Maps are among the things I love most in all the world, old, new or in between. Discovery ... sigh ...

Lovely map! I'll have to keep an eye out for exhibitions at St Jude's - my family all live in North Norfolk now, so I go up there quite often. Will have to pay a visit!
