We have a local free paper delivered to the door each week. Each week its front page is a hotbed of scurrulous calumnies and if I had a budgie I would use this paper to line its cage. Each week, in order to avoid being sued, it prints retractions and apologies for getting its facts wrong, usually on page thirteen, in tiny print, in amongst the notices from the local authority warning of road works. I suppose it really does pay, then, to make sure you've got your facts right before going to print. If only I had learnt that lesson before sending my last blog post out into the wide world. Or at least been liberal with my use of the word 'allegedly'. Here, then, to avoid legal action of the severest kind, is my own retraction:
* please scroll down several inches beyond the interesting stuff.
So, here's my Erosion Bundle, two months on, showing healthy signs of transfer of dyes and natural deterioration with massive artistic potential! OK, 'eye of faith' needed there! My other bundle is buried on the edge of the compost heap, or 're-buried', as it was discovered by this lot:
Warm sunshine from azure blue skies for the last couple of days has made me feel that Spring is about to be Sprung and I've been thinking about the veggies to plant this year. It's sometimes a bit dispiriting because I can't keep the Muntjack deer out of the garden and they do love to graze the tops off anything green and juicy. And my courgettes are generally pre-nibbled before they reach the kitchen. Heaven knows how anything will survive attentions from the hens. However, they'll not be remotely interested in this little, little, erm, what should it be called ..... embroidered picture?
I have been impatiently waiting for a gorgeous little rubber stamp which I ordered from norajane on Etsy. I'm afraid that it has a rather large carbon footprint, as it had to fly across the Atlantic. Am I a bad person? I have been searching in UK for ages to try and find just what I wanted - I was quite sure the brilliant Blade Rubber would be able to supply something, but sadly not this time. I even tried to carve my own stamp from an old eraser, but, oh dear, the mess! But when I saw this little nesting bird I HAD TO HAVE IT! So expect everything I make from now on to have a birdie tag attached to it.
* Retraction: I would like to make it clear that my Dad is not a hoarder. I apologise unreservedly for this outrageous slur on the character of a man who has never knowingly hung on to anything that would not someday come in handy.
Allegedly.

your little embroidered picture of seedlings if great! hope you have now avoided your "legal" proceedings suitably! We often tell my mum that her epitaph on her grave will be "well it was only a £1" We keep waiting to see her on one of those programmes where the presenter opens a door on a room and huge amounts of stuff tumbles out!
I ADORED everything in your post today Chrissie. Your bundles are looking interesting, your seedling embroidery is simply WONDERFUL, your tags are GORGEOUS and I don't think you will get sued this week ... I laughed my socks off in the last post about the lady who kept bits of string to small to use in a tin :o)
You've brightened my day!
Your seedling picture is so sweet, you're getting good at that writing malarky. And I'm sure your retraction with be sufficient to avoid any costly litigation ... though you can never be too sure! Can't wait to see the final results of the erosion bundles - with or without interference from the ladies. I think your stamp was worth it, though surely that little birdie made it with by feather power?

I love the things you have made, and also love the idea of hens involved in the process of making art!

Your bundle is looking good! And I may borrow your retraction to avoid my own legal battles...at least until it is a given than men will keep anything...you know because when the $19 coffee maker breaks he'll have the parts!
Chrissie,
Your Dad sounds like all Dads to me! Never throw something away that might come in useful one day.... love the seedling embroidery and the rubber stamp is delightful. It would definitely inspire me to make something.I shall expect to see it on lots of your creative projects this Spring. Lesley .
This made me smile! So pleased you avoided legal proceedings! Love that little bird stamp.

It's reassuring that I'm not the only one with a hoarding relative! Thanks for your kind remarks about the seedlings and birdie tags.
that bundle is beautiful, like a tightly swaddled infant. I wanted to holsd it and rock it. (am I losing it???) maybe!
I love your embroidered picture! And that's a cute little birdie - the tags are adorable!
charming pieces of work ...the colors & textures with the pieces of text...bliss!
Hi. I do the Carluke page, which covers Auchenglen, and have some gorgeous pictures of the farm and surrounding area. People have enjoyed your dad's stories. Come and have a look at the pictures if you like - I have more though I haven't put them all up. I can't attach files here or I would have gave you copies.
Auchenglen is a place I'd love to live - any excuse and I go down there, the tranquility is marvelous. Enjoying your blogs, Ruth
